Happy Indigenous Day!!
Today is a good day to be Indigenous. New soap drop day!!
Introducing: Indian Corn! Just kidding I’m not gonna call it that. When I was on a trip in the states a decade ago, I saw this box of candy corn at Walmart called Indian Corn. It gave me mixed feelings and stuck with me since.
On October 8th, President Biden proclaimed October 11th as Indigenous people’s day. I suggest reading the entire proclamation. In 1993 Berkeley California stopped celebrating Columbus Day and replaced it with Indigenous people’s day. Over 100 cities have made this move. This is a huge leap in the right direction. I hope that the future holds prosperity for Indigenous folx of the Americas. My hope is for equality and parity. My hope is for my people to not hurt from intergenerational traumas. My hope is that we stop inheriting these traumas. My hope is that we inherit wealth, health, and earth.
None of this has anything to do with Candy Corn. But it was a good segue.
